“Yani wants to remain focused on playing women’s events,” said Ernie Huang, Tseng’s long-time adviser. “It would be too much of a distraction for her right now as she has many other goals she would like to accomplish in the women’s game.”
Sidney Wolf, the Puerto Rico Open’s general chairman, got the news from Huang in a telephone conversation on Monday. Wolf enlisted the help of Puerto Rico’s Chi Chi Rodriguez in trying to recruit Tseng to play on a sponsor’s exemption. Wolf said he’s hopeful Tseng will reconsider an offer to play the Puerto Rico event in the future.
“Yani will always be welcome in Puerto Rico,” Wolf said. “I don’t give up easily.”
Huang said Tseng hasn’t ruled out the possibility of playing in a PGA Tour event someday.
“But Yani reiterates, the purpose would be to enjoy the moment as a learning experience,” Huang said.
