Exhausted Mediate Pulls Out of Travelers

Travelers ChampionshipCROMWELL, Conn. -- Rocco Mediate withdrew from the 2008 Travelers Championship on Monday shortly after his sudden-death loss at the U.S. Open to Tiger Woods, a tournament official said.
Mediate, 45, whose last appearance at the Cromwell tournament was in 2005, said he was pulling out because he had just finished 'a very busy week,' tournament spokeswoman Anne Marie McLaughlin said Monday.
Mediate lost to Woods in a 19-hole playoff Monday at the U.S. Open in San Diego. He had committed last week to the Travelers, which runs Thursday through Sunday at the TPC River Highlands in Cromwell.
'He had a great run out there, and hopefully we'll see him here in the future,' McLaughlin said Monday.
More than 150 golfers, including defending champion Hunter Mahan, are scheduled to play in the 2008 Travelers Championship. It has a $6 million purse, including more than $1 million for the winner.
